Litho Rocks!

Let's face it, Lithography is amazing and a passion. What better way to show appreciation than making a shirt. And yes, the image of the litho stone itself was taken during my printing production. Two shirts shown here: gold print on brown shirt and white print on red shirt.

Obama was my first word

With the upcoming election, my nieces will be showing their support with bodysuits reading "Obama was my first word." I wish this idea would have come to me months ago. Go Obama!

Letterpress it!

I came across a video posted on Neu Black today about a letterpress shop. I enjoyed the clip and decided to post a few photos from working in the letterpress shop at the University of Oregon. Oh, and by the way, this was about 15+ hours straight of typesetting. Once you start, you can't stop!!!

Engrave it!

A Printmaker's Legacy

Today I recieved an email from the director of the American Print Alliance asking if I was related to Gustave Baumann. To begin, I really am not certain. I will have to refer to my father for the answer since he's the genealogy man. But I would like to believe this to be true :) Gustave was one of the leading figures for the color woodcut revival for America. So who better to lead off in his footsteps almost 100 years later to attempt to revive practice of stone lithography:) Anyways, I humored myself with this one. I'll follow up when I find if there is any relation. In the mean time, you can check out more on Gustave Baumman.

Prints

Here are some prints I made during the past year. Due to my recent move to Portland, I am currently without access to a printmaking studio. I know there are several studios in my area and once I have my feet on the ground I hope to join one.

Volunteering for the artworld

I recently began Volunteering for The American Print Alliance. It is a non-profit organization for printmakers across all of North America. Their biggest source of income is made by donations and subscriptions to their Contemporary Impression. The magazine brings you exciting articles, essays, interviews, exhibition announcements and book reviews, twice per year. More information is available on the website, please click the link above.

With that being said, I am volunteering my time searching for art galleries in the Portland, Oregon area to host exhibits from The American Print Alliance. They are currently preparing to send out their traveling exhibit, Soap Box 2: Prints, Politics & Democracy. If you are involved with an art gallery in Portland, Oregon and may be interested, please contact me.
